Judy Conn and her team of volunteers will once again be collecting donations from motorists who stop at the traffic lights along Raglan Parade – with collectors to be at the intersections with Fairy Street and Banyan Street.

As a member of The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation’s South Western Auxiliary, Judy has been collecting for the Good Friday Appeal for several years and believes the annual event is an extremely important one.

“The hospital is such an important facility and one that has touched the lives of so many; if you haven’t needed the facility chances are you know someone who has,” she said.

“The Good Friday Appeal gives us all the opportunity to help raise some important funds to ensure its future is solid.”

With less than half a dozen members, the south western auxiliary relies on the help of volunteers to continue its collection at traffic lights on Good Friday.

“Each year we have between 20 and 30 volunteer collectors at the lights, many of them return each year to help out,” Judy said.

“It’s great to see them coming back; we have a lot of fun during the day and there’s often some great banter with motorists while they wait at the lights.

“Because we are collecting in traffic our volunteers need to be at least 16 years old. Last year we raised around $25,000 for the hospital and we’re aiming for at least that much again on Friday.”

Anyone wishing to join Judy and her team of volunteers can simply turn up tomorrow (Friday) at their Banyan Street base anytime throughout the day, or call Judy on 0435 739 370.

“Volunteers are always welcome and we’ll be there collecting from 8am through until 5pm so the more people the merrier.

“We’re also thankful to St John of God Hospital for allowing us to use one of their meeting rooms to count and tally the donations.”

* Anyone wanting more information on the voluntary work of the south western auxiliary is also welcome to call Judy.
