Repair Cafe open Saturday
BEFORE you consider throwing out those pants that need mending, the lamp that stopped working or the doll that has a broken limb, head to the Port Fairy Repair Café this weekend.
Volunteers at the café will be on hand tomorrow (Saturday) to mend, repair and tackle a variety of much-loved items that simply need a little TLC.
Over the years, volunteer repairers have tackled everything from electrical appliances and small household items to toys, clothing, jewellery, tools and all manner of things people aren’t quite ready to give up on.
Sometimes the problem is obvious but sometimes it takes a bit of detective work.
A repair might involve a replacement part, a loose connection, a bit of stitching or simply working out why something that used to work perfectly has suddenly decided it doesn’t.
And sometimes the repairer can’t fix it - but even then, you might leave knowing what went wrong, whether it’s worth repairing, what part you need to find or what to look for if you need to replace it.
The repair café is also a place to learn.
Volunteers have years of practical knowledge and love sharing it – you may even discover that something you thought was destined for landfill is actually repairable (and that you can learn to do some of the fixing yourself).
The Port Fairy Repair Café will be open tomorrow, Saturday, September 19, from 10am–12noon at the Port Fairy Community House.
