Roosters hold on to fifth
SOUTH Warrnambool’s senior footballers are holding on to fifth spot on the ladder by a small percentage over Portland following a loss to the Eagles last weekend.

Round nine of the Hampden League fixture saw the Roosters at home to ladder leaders, North Warrnambool.
The opening quarter was a relatively even one, with both sides scrambling to retain possession of the ball in wintry conditions.
Going in to the second quarter, the Eagles were one point ahead but managed to extend that to 18 points by half-time.
The second half saw limited scoring opportunities, with South adding just two majors while the Eagles managed four.
Final scores were North Warrnambool 11.14.80 to South 7.2.44.
Best for the Eagles were Zac Everall, Charlie McKinnon, Jackson Grundy, Jarryd Lewis, Tom Keast and Xavier Harris.
Best for South were Trent Williamson, Archie Stevens, Jaidyn Hawkins, Ollie Smith, Kaine Mercovich and Jordan Garner.
The win sees North Warrnambool continue its unblemished 2026 record, now sitting two games clear of their nearest rivals, Koroit.
Terang Mortlake, Warrnambool and South Warrnambool round out the top five.
In the reserves, Warrnambool sits top of the Hampden League ladder with eight wins and just the one loss; just percentage ahead of South Warrnambool.
Cobden, Hamilton and Koroit round out the five.
In Hampden League’s Open netball competition, ladder leaders South Warrnambool is a game clear of nearest rivals, Koroit, following a convincing 70-39 goal win over North Warrnambool last weekend.
Darcy McFarlane shot 39 goals for the Roosters, while team-mate Emma Buwalda added 31.
Best for the winners were Genevieve O’Connor, Buwalda and McFarlane.
Round nine wins also went to Cobden, Port Fairy, Koroit and Warrnambool.
Round 10 this weekend will see South Warrnambool host Cobden, Port Fairy host Portland, North Warrnambool will be home to Warrnambool, Terang Mortlake host Camperdown and Koroit will travel to Hamilton to face the Kangaroos.
