Roosters top of the table
SOUTH Warrnambool now sits on top of the Hampden League table following its round three win over the Blues last weekend.
The Roosters enjoyed a comfortable 39-point victory at Reid Oval on Saturday, giving them the perfect start to season 2023.
The Blues found themselves struggling to convert in the first quarter, managing just 1.3.9 while the Roosters took advantage of their forward opportunities to finish the first term 4.1.25.
With just eight points separating the two sides at half-time, the Roosters stepped up a gear in the third term, adding three goals and two behinds to the board while restricting the Blues to two goals, three.
A solid last quarter effort from the visitors saw them take the win on the final siren.
Final scores were South Warrnambool 14.6.90 to Warrnambool 6.15.51.
Best players for the visitors were Sam Thompson, Patrick Anderson, Daniel Nicholson, Josh Saunders, Jonah Maher and Sam Kelly while for the Blues, Nicholas Hooker, Will Lord, Daniel Weymouth, Luke Cody, Darcy Graham and Ryan Warfe performed well.
Sam Kelly booted four goals for the Roosters and was well supported by team-mates Patrick Anderson and Will White (three each), Max Irving (2), Jonah Maher and Bailey Osborne.
For the Blues, Luke Cody and Cooper Hoffmann kicked two each, with singles going to Rhys Jansen van Beek and Jed Turland. Round four will be a split round for Hampden.
