Russells Creek on top
AFTER four rounds, with three wins under their belts, Russells Creek currently sits on top of the Warrnambool District Cricket Association ladder.
With Allansford, Merrivale and Brierly-Christ Church also recording three wins to date, early indications are the 2023 season may shape up to be a close one at the top.
The top side stamped its mark on its Merrivale opponents last weekend, winning the toss and electing to bat first.
Openers Hamish Huffadine and captain Cameron Williams made 38 and 32 runs respectively while team-mates Rukshan Weerasinghe (50) and Craig Britten (45 not out) were also impressive with the bat.
The side made 9/197 off its 45 overs. In reply, the Tigers struggled to reach a tonne, finishing the day on 10/86 off 21 overs.
Wilbur Pomorin (28) and Marcus Bunney (18) were the best of the Tigers’ batsmen while best with the ball for Russells Creek was Oliver Noonan who took an impressive 4/12 off five overs.
Also effective at the crease were Blake Evans 2-23 off six and Adam Doak 2-21 off five.
Other round four division one winners last weekend were Wesley Yambuk over North Warrnambool, Brierly-Christ Church over Port Fairy and Nestles in a close one over Northern Riaders.
Dennington also took the win over Allansford Panmure while West Warrnambool defeated Mortlake.
