Saints march to grand final

KOROIT’S Open netball side booked itself a spot in the Hampden League grand final with a nail-biting two goal win over South Warrnambool last weekend.

Last Saturday’s clash between last year’s grand finalists was another great spectacle, with just a goal separating the two at both the main break and three-quarter time.

A high scoring final term, which saw the Saints pile on 23 goals while containing the Roosters to 22, kept the crowd on edge until the final whistle.

Rebecca Hicks shot a game high 50 goals for the Saints and was well supported by team-mate Indi O’Connor (11), while for the Roosters goals went to Darcy McFarlane (23), Meg Carlin (20) and Emma Buwalda (16).

Best for the Saints were Hicks, Layla Monk and Indi O’Connor while for the Roosters, Ally O’Connor, Darcy McFarlane and Isabella Rea were best.

The Roosters will now take on Warrnambool (who defeated Cobden 48-46 on Sunday) in this Saturday’s preliminary final decider at Gardens Oval.

In the Hampden League senior football, ladder leaders North Warrnambool booked a spot in the grand final after defeating Terang Mortlake by 48 points last weekend.

The Bloods will now face Koroit (who ended Portland’s finals campaign last weekend) in Saturday’s preliminary final.
