The visit proved an ideal opportunity to celebrate culture, inclusion and community across the school communities.

“We wanted students to experience an authentic and engaging connection to Aboriginal culture through music, storytelling and language while also strengthening understanding and respect for First Nations perspectives,” St Joseph’s Primary School principal Nick Murrell said.

“Mitch’s message of pride, identity and belonging strongly reflected the values celebrated during Catholic Education Week.”

Alongside performances for students, Mitch also provided professional learning for staff from local Catholic schools.

“This supported educators to further develop their understanding of Aboriginal culture and explore ways to continue building culturally safe and inclusive learning environments for all students,” Mr Murrell said.

“The visit provided a memorable experience for students and staff alike, and highlighted the importance of learning from and celebrating Aboriginal voices within Catholic education.”
