Scouts enjoy fresh surrounds
THE Koroit Scout Group is now enjoying a ‘fresh new look’ at its home base.

The group, which currently meets every Monday night at its hall on Horne Street, was thrilled to see the recent completion of interior works on the hall which included a fresh coat of paint on what was some “pretty ordinary” walls.
“We have Joeys, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers all meeting here at the hall each week but the interior was pretty ordinary,” group treasurer Lisa Ryan said.
“There was mould on quite a few spots from water damage and some of the paint was bubbling and flaking.
“It looked terrible and was in dire need of an upgrade. We had the kitchen modified earlier in the year thanks to a grant from Moyne Shire Council, which included a new oven, and the painting was finished over the school holidays; the kids (and parents) are thrilled with how it now looks.
“We’re very grateful to not only the council but also the Koroit Lions Club and Koroit Irish Festival for their donations.
“Bunnings Warrnambool has also donated some new noticeboards and Koroit local, Jeremy Peters, did the painting.”
With Joeys, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers, the Koroit group offers local families the opportunity to share experiences and learn together.
“We’re all about older kids helping the younger kids and parent participation – the group leaders all have children here.
“Andrew McMahon leads the Joeys, Russell Bell the Cubs, Kim Leddin and Lachlan McDonald are assistant Cub leaders, Jake Golding is the Scout leader and Tina Lee the Venturers.
“It’s wonderful to see all the siblings working together and families enjoying activities; it’s a lot of fun; it’s noisy, it’s busy but it keeps the kids off screens and enjoying a range of activities,” Venturer leader Tina Lee said.
“New members and families are always welcome. We have children from the age of five and currently have around 30 members – always happy to see new faces.”
