Serving up a good time

PEOPLE of all ages took the opportunity to test their skills and have some fun on the table tennis tables at Gateway Plaza last week.

Organised by members of the Warrnambool Table Tennis club, the two-day event proved a big hit among children and adults alike, with over 140 people having a hit over the two days.

“We set up some tables in one of the vacant shops at Gateway last Tuesday and Wednesday and had around 140 people call in and have a try,” club member David Walkley said.

“We had players from the age of five through to some in their mid 70s, and they all had a really good time.

“Plenty of locals who called in also indicated they may give table tennis a try, as well as quite a few holiday makers – some from as far as Singapore, WA and South Australia.”

Anyone wishing to give table tennis a try is welcome to attend the club’s social/practise sessions at the table tennis stadium in Cramer Street each Wednesday from 5pm.

Sessions can also be enjoyed every Tuesday from 9.30am along with Thursday’s at 6pm and Saturday mornings from 9.30am.

“We are very grateful to the team at Gateway Plaza for the opportunity last week in helping to promote table tennis; we appreciate all the work they did for us,” David said.

“And thankyou to our club members who helped over the two days and ensured it all ran smoothly – including Gilles Gundermann, Peter Kao, Paul Ralp, Gordon Gunn, Dom Angarano, Mark Taylor and Paul Munster.”
