Sheep Dogs take the spotlight

SPECTATORS at last weekend’s final day of this year’s Australian Sheepdog Championships were again treated to a great display of team work between dogs and handlers.

The championships, which were held over six days at Koroit’s Victoria Park, attracted more than 200 entries from all over Australia.

According to organiser Connor McConnell, perfect weather conditions and large entry numbers provided an ideal atmosphere for the event.

“We have been hosting this event in Koroit for about the last 12 years or so and once again the quality of entries was terrific,” Connor said.

“It was a good six days’ of competition.”

Results from the competition were as follows:

Encourage – 1st Pilbara Trick (Lara McKillop), 2nd East Kurrajong Collie (Lara McKillop).

Novice – 1st MGH Anna (Mick Hudson), 2nd Elliotts Ellie (Paul Elliott), 3rd Berryden JJ (Paul Elliott), 4th Pilbara Trick (Laura McKillop), equal 5th Riverbourne Spot (Eileen Moriarty) and Freeway Noble (Ann Wherry), 7th SB Millie (Doug Taylor).

Improver – 1st MGH Snip (Mick Hudson), 2nd Freeway Noble (Ann Wherry), 3rd MGH Gypsy (Mick Hudson), 4th Elliotts Monne (Paul Elliott), 5th MGH Billabong Creek (Paul O’Kane) and 6th Berryden Lyre (Susan Young).

Open final – 1st Larners Mavis (Barry Knight), 2nd MGH Rosie (Mick Hudson), 3rd Shannandoah Steele (Lee Jamieson), 4th Knights Ron (Bailey Knight), 5th MGH Snip (Mick Hudson), 6th Elliotts Georgie (Paul Elliott) and 7th Elliotts Monne (Paul Elliott).
