Show success at Heytesbury
LOCAL breeders enjoyed a successful day at the Heytesbury Show last weekend.
Ten breeds of sheep were represented at the show, with 65 entries submitted for judging.
Ideal weather conditions saw a good crowd through the gates on Saturday, with the sheep judging resting with experienced judges Simon Thomas from Cavendish and Brucknell’s Colin Taylor.
Breed champions were as follows:
Corriedale – Hildred and Leahy, Boonong Park (Mortlake).
English Leister – Tahlia Holesm, Willow Drive (Grassmere).
Hampshire Down – Hildred and Leahy, Boonong Park (Mortlake).
Poll Dorset – Eric Harrison, Eastside (Pomborneit).
Romney – McDonald and Brooks, Grassbank (Grassmere).
Ryeland – Andrew Wilkens, Malung (Paraparup).
Suffolk – Simon Cotter, Cotter (Beeac).
Southdown – McDonald and Brooks, Grassbank (Grassmere).
South Suffollk – Shalders, Willow Drive (Grassmere).
White Suffolk – Simon Cotter, Cotter (Beeac).
Interbred awards were presented to:
Best wool – English Leicester ram.
Lamb – Hampshire Down ewe.
Hindquarter – Suffolk ram.
Group – Hampshire Down.
Shire’s Progeny Group – Ryeland.
Ram – champion: South Suffolk; reserve: Suffolk.
Ewe – champion: Hampshire Down; reserve: English Leicester.
All Breeds Sheep of the Show Champion – Hampshire ewe, Hildred and Leahy; reserve – English Leicester ewe, Tahlia Holmes.
