South dominates

GOOD Friday saw plenty of local footy and netball action, with the annual South Warrnambool v Koroit clash.

The annual Good Friday clash between South and the Saints once again provided plenty of entertainment, with both sides keen test their pre-season efforts.

In ideal weather conditions, spectators were treated to an even first quarter, with both sides kicking four goals one for the term.

The second was just as close, with accuracy in front of goals and early leads playing a big part on the scoreboard.

The Roosters went into the main break with a handy 13-point lead before the Saints piled on four goals to one in the third term to take control on the board.

Eight points down heading into the final quarter, the Roosters gathered momentum and found their team-mates in the forward line, kicking three goals four behinds while containing the Saints to just a point for the term.

Final scores were South Warrnambool 11.9.75 to Koroit 9.8.62.

Sam Kelly had a great day out for the Roosters kicking five majors.

He was well supported by team-mates Shannon Beks (4) and Jack Dye (2).

For the Saints, Connor Byrne led the way on the board with three majors, followed by William Couch (2) and singles to Matthew Bradley, Jett Grayland, Liam Hoy and Paddy O’Sullivan.

Best for the Roosters were Jed Henderson, Sam Kelly, Jack Dye, Sam Thompson, Harry Lee and Myles McCluggage.

Best for the Saints were Connor Byrne, Thomas Baulch, Paddy O’Sullivan, Jett Grayland, Tate Waterson and Liam Hoy.

The Roosters dominated in the reserves match, taking home a confidence-boosting 102 point win, 18.8.116 to 2.2.4.

Best for the Roosters were Mitchell Wollermann, Walker Owen, Peter Doukas, Sam Lenehan, Harrison Black and Daniel Hawkins.

Goals went to Kym Eagleson and Sam Lenehan (four each), Xavier Beks and Walker Owen (3), Sam Smith (2) and singles to Daniel Hawkins and Mitchell Wollermann.

The Roosters also led the way in the under 18s match, defeating Koroit 11.8.74 to 2.7.19.
