Stewart wins Classic
TEEN cycling sensation Lucinda Stewart has bounced back from injury to win this year’s Lochard Energy Women’s Warrnambool Classic.
Despite breaking her collarbone just a month ago, Stewart put on a brave performance to take line honours from Josephine Pepper and Amanda Poulsen in third.
Having sat all of January out nursing her injury, she said she was in “absolute disbelief” to have won.
“I’m more of a sprinter but I didn’t want to wait to the end for a sprint so I dug my heels in and give it everything and held on,” Stewart said.
The women’s classic, which began in Colac early last Sunday morning, took the pack through Timboon, Port Campbell, Peterborough and Allansford before heading into Warrnambool to complete the 160km race.
