Warrnambool’s Glenn Wooster is looking forward to the 2023 drag racing season after a second place at Tailem Bend.

Wooster finished second in the first round of the National Drag Racing Championship (NDRC), held just over a fortnight ago at the new complex Dragway at The Bend Spring Nationals Event.

Wooster’s performance saw him take out a very close second in the Prostock motorcycle category.

“That race was the inaugural quarter mile event at Tailem Bend and it couldn’t have gone much better,” Wooster said.

“It was the biggest weekend in South Australian drag racing history with 350 plus drag racing cars and bikes and crowds of 20,000 plus through the gates.”

The weekend also marked Wooster’s second time out after once again personally overseeing the engine development program for White Live Fever Drag Racing.

“We couldn’t have been more excited to have come home with a tightly contested runner-up placing and have some great data showing fantastic results, exciting us all with this motorbike’s potential,” Wooster said.

“The track was awesome to race on and only being five or six hours from Warrnambool it becomes our new home track for us now.”

While full of enthusiasm for the new track, Wooster said the weather conditions at Tailem Bend played havoc with the racing schedule.

“The weather conditions hampered us, with wind gusts exceeding 50km/hr which made racing too dangerous late afternoon on Saturday and racing was cancelled.”

This cancellation meant Wooster’s test run became the qualifying round for Sunday’s racing format, placing him in fourth position.

A positive that came out of this testing was a recorded PB for the 60’ time which came out at 1.066 seconds.

“Sunday’s first round saw us run a 7.196 sec pass at 166mph which gave us the top ET time in the first round.

“Round two was a solid win, and felt like the smoothest and best ride on a Pro Stock motorcycle I have ever experienced.”

The final, round three, was based on accumulated points throughout the meeting.

This saw Wooster pitted against Scott White – with Scott’s 7.170sec ET and reaction time of 0.032 enough to give him the win.

“Unfortunately I had a sleepy reaction time of 0.233 but faster ET of 7.080; but that’s racing,” Wooster said.

“It was so good to see Pro Stock Motorcycles finally running 7’s and 7.1 at 300km/h in a final.”
