During July, the Warrnambool line’s reliability performance dipped to 94.8 per cent while punctuality fell to 88.1 per cent.

Both reliability and performance results were the lowest for 2026, with the leading cause of cancelled or delayed services attributed to the Telstra outage.

The outage resulted in 12 Warrnambool line trains cancelled on July 8 and 9.

A V/Line spokesperson said more than 100 coaches were able to be sourced each day to assist passengers with their movements, including on the Warrnambool line.

“The Warrnambool line recorded almost 95 per cent reliability and 88 per cent punctuality in July, despite being impacted by the nationwide Telstra outage,” the spokesperson said.

“We thank passengers who had service changes or delays during this time for their patience and understanding.

“Over the past year, the Warrnambool line has been one of the best performing on the V/Line network, consistently meeting punctuality and reliability targets.”

The outage interrupted what had been a steady rise following the completion of upgrade works which saw modern VLocity trains added to the line.

In the past 12 months the Warrnambool line has recorded 98.7 per cent reliability and 93.8 per cent punctuality.

Passengers planning to travel on the Warrnambool line are encouraged to plan ahead and make a reservation in advance by booking online, at a staffed V/Line station, by calling 1800 800 007 or by visiting a retail ticket agent.
