Three game buffer for the Eagles

A WIN over second-placed Koroit has enabled Hampden League senior football ladder leaders North Warrnambool to draw three games clear of the Saints.

The Eagles’ unblemished 2026 season continued last weekend when they travelled to Victoria Park.

The home side started strong, kicking 4.3 to 3.1 before a relatively even second quarter saw just 10 points separating the sides at the main break.

The Eagles added three majors in the third term while containing the Saints to just one, taking a narrow one point lead into the final term.

Accuracy in front of goals by the Eagles paid dividends in the final quarter – the side running home 12 point victors, 12.4.76 to 8.16.64.

Best for the Eagles were Adam Wines, Charlie Jellie, Reece Scoble, Jackson Grundy, Bailey Jenkinson and Xavier Harris.

Nathan Vardy finished the day with three goals while team-mates Jackson Grundy, Charlie McKinnon and Adam Wines each scored two, with singles to Bailey Jenkinson, Tom Keast and Angus Noske.

Goal scorers for the Saints were Connor Byrne (2), Jack Block, Moss McInerney, Will morrison, Clem Nagorcka, Jyron Neave and Des O’Keefe.

Among the best for the Saints were Thomas Baulch, Jyron Neave, Jack Block, Des O’Keefe, Jett Grayland and Alex Armitstead.

In other Hampden League round 11 senior matches, wins went to Port Fairy over Cobden, Warrnambool over South, Camperdown defeated Hamilton, and Portland handed Terang Mortlake its biggest loss to date.

The Hampden League will have a bye round tomorrow (Saturday), with round 12 matches scheduled for Saturday, July 11.

That weekend, Hamilton will host Portland, South Warrnambool will be home to Port Fairy, Koroit will travel to Warrnambool, the Eagles will host Camperdown and Terang Mortlake will clash with Cobden at Terang.
