Tigers triumphant

LAST year’s runners-up Merrivale kick started its 2024 campaign with a win over Old Collegians on Good Friday.

The two clubs, fixtured to meet in round five, gave spectators an early glimpse into the new season when they met at Merrivale Recreation Reserve last week.

The Tigers jumped the Warriors in the first quarter, sending home 4.2 to 3.1, and maintained momentum for the remainder of the match to celebrate a 106-point win.

Final scores were Merrivale 21.14.140 to Old Collegians 5.4.34.

Best for Merrivale were Jalen Porter, Flynn Atchison, Jack Gleeson, Trent Harman, Oliver Watson and Sam Gleeson.

For Old Collegians, Matt Petherick, Jacob Brooks, Harry White, Harry Hall, Connor Barby and Greg Bond were named among the best.

Nathan Krepp and Dylan Weir both had a great first game for the year, booting home five goals each for the Tigers.

Other contributors on the scoreboard included Matt Hausler, Jack Neave and Jalen Porter with two each, and single goals to Sam Gleeson, Billy Hancocks, Jaxon Johnstone, Charlie McDonald and Oliver Watson.

Goal scorers for Old Collegians were Greg Bond and Harry White (two each) and Sebastian Good.
