Several pink stumps events have been organised by the club in the hope to raise both awareness and funds for this vital organisation.

The club recently launched its new pink uniforms for the campaign and encouraged all members, supporters and the general public to show their support through donations – no matter how large or small.

Tomorrow (Saturday, January 17) the Premier division team will take on Russells Creek at Merrivale.

Supporters are encouraged to get along to the clubrooms and enjoy a special pink afternoon tea as part of ‘Pinkfest.’

The pink campaign will continue on January 24 when the 3s will face Spring Creek, with the final day of the campaign due to be held on January 25.

“The Merrivale Cricket Club takes great pride in its efforts of using our platform to push a cause that is greater than ourselves, to inflict real change,” club secretary Nick Sinnott said.

The McGrath Foundation and its efforts to raise funds for nurses to support cancer patients and their families is a cause that runs deep within the club.

“Unfortunately, many members of our club have been touched at some point by someone with the disease; a mother, a father, a brother, a sister, a friend, no matter whom; it is one person too many,” Sinnott said.

The club runs its own form of ‘Pink Stumps’ to demonstrate its connection with the disease, its patients, its survivors and those who it has taken (and their families).

Last year marked the club’s inaugural Pink Stumps day.

This year the club’s new pink shirts will be played in all one day fixtures.
