Tighly contested results for round five
SOME tightly contested matches were recorded for round five of the Orford and District Table Tennis Association.
Tower Hill fielded their full side, with the return of David Rowbottom to their doubles line-up proved too strong for Attunga.
Joining Attunga as their third player was Pat Dwyer, who played the longest match of the night against Tower Hill’s Mary, winning in five games: 11-8, 10-12, 11-8, 14-12, 4-11.
Tower Hill’s best was Darren Smith, who won all three singles, while Gavin Rowbottom contributed two wins.
Final scores were Tower Hill defeated Attunga 6.20-5.16.
Glengleeson lost to Broadwater 4.12-7.25
Broadwater’s Peter Drendal continued his impressive form alongside Andrea, with both players winning all three singles and their doubles match to secure success over Glengleeson.
The standout and closest match of the night saw Glengleeson’s Linton Price narrowly defeat Broadwater’s Leah Drendal in an entertaining five-game battle: 13-11, 5-11, 11-5, 9-11, 11-7.
St Helens defeated Orford 7.22-4.16
St Helens’ Ally Rowbottom opened the night with a tight five-game contest, narrowly defeating Orford’s Jaden Clapp 11-8, 10-12, 8-11, 12-10, 11-4.
Orford welcomed back familiar face Peter Anscombe for his first game of the season, and he showed he hasn’t lost his touch, contributing to the team’s score with a singles win.
St Helens’ strength in the doubles, combined with Aaron Rowbottom’s three singles, secured the overall win and moved them back into second place on the ladder. For Orford, Russell Hussey was their best winning two.
Warrnambool Warriors defeated Koroit 7.24-4.17
Warrnambool Warriors maintained their game-ahead lead on the ladder with a comfortable win over Koroit.
Koroit’s Fergus Monsborough was their standout performer, winning all three of his matches, while Warrnambool’s Peter Owen, Neil Ford and David Cranwell were all consistent contributors, each with two singles wins.
The longest match of the night came in the doubles, where Koroit prevailed in a five-game battle 12-10, 4-11, 11-7, 8-11, 6-11.
Week six will see Broadwater face Tower Hill, Glengleeson will play Orford, Attunga will meet Warrnambool Warriors and Koroit will take on St Helens.
