Tower Hill turns the tables
TOWER Hill caused the upset win of the night this week when they defeated Attunga in week 12 of the Orford and District Table Tennis competition.
Attunga won three of the four extended rubbers but it didn’t give them the match – Tower Hill just managed to win six.
The one Tower Hill did win was huge.
Final scores saw Tower Hill defeat Attunga 6.23-5.16.
Darren Smith and Gavin Rowbottom defeated Attunga’s Kelly Wortley and Gus Looney 4-11, 11-8, 12-10, 18-20 and 11-6.
Gus teamed with Val Wortley to defeat Darren and David Rowbottom 11-6, 10-12, 11-6, 6-11 and 11-7.
Gus also had a win over David 6-11, 11-8, 11-8 and 14-12.
Kelly defeated Gavin 4-11, 11-8, 11-9, 6-11 and 11-5.
Darren Smith won his three rubbers, supported by Gavin with two rubbers, while Kelly Wortley was Attunga’s best with two rubbers.
Broadwater defeated Glengleeson 7.223-4.13.
Only two rubbers were extended with both teams winning one each.
Andrea and Peter Drendel defeated Glengleeson’s Gareth Spring and Linton Price 11-4, 11-9, 10-12 and 11-7.
Linton went on to defeat Leah Drendel in the other extended rubber 11-4, 6-11, 11-9, 8-11 and 11-6.
Glengleeson’s Billy Lyons and Leah had the longest rubber of the night at 13-11.
Both Andrea and Peter Drendel won their three rubbers while all of Glengleeson’s players won a rubber each.
Orford lost to St Helens 3.15-8.25.
Six extended rubbers, games to a high of 14-12, not the easy win the score indicates.
St Helens won four of the close rubbers, setting up the win, while Aaron Rowbottom won his three rubbers.
Ally and Jensen Rowbottom defeated Jaden Clapp and Steve Young 11-8, 8-11, 3-11, 7-11 and 11-6.
Jensen defeated Steve 4-11, 11-9, 11-6, 1-11 and 11-8.
Russell Hussey was Orford’s best with two rubbers while Jaden won the other.
Koroit lost to Warrnambool Warriors 4.16-7.22.
Although Koroit’s Fergus Monsborough won his three rubbers, Warrnambool Warriors was too strong on the night with all their players winning two rubbers each.
They also won three of the four extended rubbers.
David Cranwell defeated Koroit’s Tony Storer in the only five game rubber, 10-12, 10-12, 11-8, 11-5 and 11-8.
Next week will see Tower Hill face Broadwater, Orford will take on Glengleeson, Warrnambool Warriors will play Attunga while St Helens will meet Koroit.
The night may see two late night matches, with the Warrnambool Warriors/ Attunga and St Helens/Koroit games.
