While work continues on upgrading the stabling at Warrnambool station, V/Line chief executive officer Will Tieppo last week announced trains would recommence on the line from Wednesday, May 13.

Until then, coaches will continue to replace trains between Waurn Ponds and Warrnambool.

Mr Tieppo thanked passengers for their patience and understanding during the major infrastructure renewal works on both the Warrnambool and Geelong lines.

“We are very happy to be able to return trains a week early for Warrnambool line passengers and we thank the crews for their hard work to make this happen,” he said.

Mr Tieppo said the separate works to upgrade the stabling facility at Warrnambool would continue into May.

The $15.4 million maintenance works included level crossing upgrades, bridge and track works and mudhole removals.

“Our crews also worked inside the Geelong rail tunnel carrying out track and drainage upgrades to ensure the tunnel provides a vital connection for our passengers for many years to come,” Mr Tieppo said.

“These important upgrade and improvement works on these lines ensure we can continue to offer a safe and reliable service to communities in the south west.”

Works also included track upgrades between North Shore and Geelong, level crossing upgrades at Little River and between Colac and Warrnambool.

Additional CCTV was also installed at the Geelong station and tactile ground surface indicators replaced along several platforms.

Passengers are encouraged to check the V/Line website for details about temporary timetables.

Passengers with accessibility needs can call 1800 800 007 prior to travelling to ensure staff are aware of their travel needs.

V/Line staff will also be available to assist priority passengers.

Passengers can continue to travel for free until May 31.
