The college’s ‘Turning the Wheels on Men’s Mental Health’ initiative involved five spin bikes operating continuously throughout the school day today, with students and staff working together to keep the wheels turning.

Participants signed up for 15-minute riding sessions and competed within their house groups to ensure there was never a break in the action.

The challenge was designed to encourage conversations around mental health while highlighting the importance of supporting one another through life’s challenges.

Adding to the day’s impact, the team from Headspace was on site to engage with students and provide support and information about mental wellbeing.

The event marked the beginning of a week-long focus on men’s mental health, with a range of challenges, activities and interactive opportunities planned during recess and lunchtime throughout the week.

Emmanuel College spokesperson for the campaign and men’s health advocate Ben Walsh said it was encouraging to see so many young men getting involved.

“One of the most important things we can do is show up for our mates and have conversations when things aren’t going well,” Mr Walsh said.

“It’s fantastic to see so many students stepping up and getting involved in this challenge.

“By supporting each other and breaking down the stigma around mental health, we can help turn the tables on the future of men’s mental health.”

As the wheels continue to spin throughout the day, the message remained clear - no one should have to face their struggles alone, and sometimes a simple conversation can make all the difference.
