Upgrades underway at Premier
WITH the season opener just three months away, upgrades at Premier Speedway’s Allansford home are now well underway.
According to general manager Rikki Stewart, several works at the facility are well on track for completion prior to the season’s first meet on October 31 when Sprintcars and Wingless Sprints will hit the track.
“We are currently carrying out extensive works to the pits,” he said.
“We’ve extended the pit area by four metres which will improve safety, especially when the pits are at capacity.
“We have also removed all of the grass from that area and are now lining it with gravel which will enable us to place transporters in a different location, which will assist with placement and accessibility for teams. By doing this we’ve also been able to rectify some drainage issues.”
Also recently completed was an upgrade to the judges’ box.
This included re-painting, new flooring, windows, seating and fridges for stewards, commentators and timers.
“The club recently purchased a new water truck, we’ve ordered a new comms centre for all electrical, data and PA equipment, and will spray seal parts of the venue.
“We have also ordered new toilets to be placed upstairs for corporate guests on the Allansford side of the venue, along with a new canteen roof for the Allansford side.”
Another big ticket item the club has also planned for is the installation of a new, 55 square metre permanent big screen TV.
“We’re currently waiting on a council permit to be approved before we can begin installation works,” Rikki said.
“We’re planning to erect the screen in turns one and two (the highway end), as well as relocate the existing timing board to that area as well. This will bring in revenue for the club in terms of advertising for our sponsors and partners, and it will give spectators the chance to see replay footage in the venue.”

Repairs and upgrades to the catch fence are also currently being undertaken.
“There’s a lot going on at the moment but, weather permitting, we’re confident that all works in the pits will be completed in time for our season opener in October,” Rikki said.
“And we’re hoping to have the giant screen up and running before our busy January period.”
Kids in the Pits
Premier Speedway has also applied to be a part of the ‘Kids in the Pits Vest’ program and is now awaiting a response from Speedway Australia.
The program allows children under 16 to safely access the pit area at Speedway Australia events under strict supervision and safety rules.
The program is designed for children under 16 who do not hold a Speedway Australia licence and are part of a race team, not the general public.
It is believed that children must wear a high-visibility vest throughout the event, which must display the car number of the driver/team they are associated with.
Parents or guardians must sign a waiver at the pit gate and wear an armband along with their child.
They are only allowed in the pit bays, transporters, toilets, viewing areas or canteens (common areas restricted unless passing through with a parent).
They must maintain a five-metre distance from cars being pushed, jacked or refuelled and must remain within three metres of an adult.
