Valuable safety tips for businesses
PORT Fairy businesses were given some valuable tips on managing workplace health and safety risks during a special seminar in the town.
Commerce Moyne, in partnership with Moyne Shire and supported by Origin Energy’s Mortlake Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Community Investment Fund, recently hosted two successful safety events (OH&S Knowing Your Risks).
One session was held in Port Fairy and the second in Mortlake, providing business owners in both towns the chance to increase their capacity to manage workplace health and safety risks.
Kicking off WorkSafe’s Australia Safety Month: Safety: Every Job, Every Day, the events featured guest speakers from Origin Energy’s Mortlake Battery project who shared practical tips on how to maintain high safety standards.
The guest speakers also showed how small businesses and independent trades can use key tools to keep their workplaces safe and compliant.
Attendees also heard from Paul Livingston of the Work Safe Essentials Program, a free and confidential initiative funded by the Victorian Government designed to help small businesses and famers improve their safety practices over a 12-month period.
The program includes three site visits to each participating business where a dedicated representative will provide tailored advice, practical strategies, and support to help businesses comply with OH&S requirements and foster a culture of workplace safety.
The events were well attended and gave the local business community the opportunity to learn from industry leaders.
“Commerce Moyne aims to empower local business owners in the Moyne Shire, and by increasing awareness about programs like Work Safe Essentials we can support them in making both their businesses, and the people who work in them, safer,” Commerce Moyne representative Peter O’Keeffe said.
