Wear orange, help make a difference
ARE you looking for a way to contribute to your local community?

VIC SES Port Fairy is currently searching for more volunteers.
As a junior-accredited unit, the group welcomes new members from the age of 15.
“We would love to see new faces at our meetings,” member Bree Emonson said.
“Volunteering with the SES is very rewarding and it can fit around everyday life.
“A lot of people assume they need heaps of spare time to become a member when really that isn’t the case.”
The Port Fairy unit is currently looking for new members aged 15 and over who are keen to get involved alongside adults and learn valuable skills, build confidence and become part of their local community.
“And we’re looking for people from all walks of life,” Bree said.
“This includes parents, full-time workers, shift workers, people who work away, semi-retired or retired people, and anyone looking to learn new skills, meet new people and give something back to their community.
“We’re particularly hoping to reach people within our local response area, which stretches from Port Fairy through to Koroit, Yambuk and Macarthur. We’re also keen to hear from people who have, or would like to work towards, their truck licence, as this is an important skill within our unit.”
As part of the Port Fairy SES, members can become involved in a range of incidents, including road crash rescue, storm and flood response, working at heights, 4WD, chainsaw operations, community engagement along with many other training opportunities.
There are also different roles within the unit – ensuring there really is something for a wide range of people.
The unit currently meets and trains each Tuesday night from 7.30pm until 9.30pm; providing an opportunity for members to build skills, gain new qualifications and take on new and interesting challenges.
Anyone interested in finding out more about becoming a member of the Port Fairy SES unit can simply attend a Tuesday night meeting.
