Week one of finals complete

TIMBOON’S first finals win in eight years and a flex from reigning premier Nirranda highlighted the first week of Warrnambool and District senior football finals.

t Allansford on Sunday, after a tight first quarter Timboon dominated Merrivale to record a 14.9.93 to 6.7.43 win in the elimination final at Allansford.

Sam Thompson, Bayley Thompson and Will Benallack were the Demons best in the win, with Benallack and Bayley Thompson kicking four goals each.

Best for Merrivale in the season ending loss were Manny Sandow, Sean Barnes and Jalen Porter, with Nathan Krepp the only multiple goal kicker with two.

On Saturday at the Davidson Oval, third-placed Nirranda had an 11.8.74 to 4.6.30 win over second placed Russells Creek.

Jeremy Stacey kicked five goals for the Blues in the win and was best along with John Paulin and Noah Mounsey.

For Russells Creek, Darcy Hoye, Kurt Smith and Jailon Jenkins were best.

This weekend’s finals matches see Allansford and Nirranda clashing at Timboon in Saturday’s second semi-final, with the first semi-final on Sunday at Dennington between Russells Creek and Timboon.

In the reserves, Russells Creek had a 5.4.34 to 3.8.26 win over Nirranda in the qualifying final, with Old Collegians having a 7.3.45 to 3.5.23 win over Timboon in the elimination final.

This week’s reserves games see Allansford play Russells Creek in the second semi-final, with Nirranda and Old Collegians meeting in the first semi-final.

The under 18.5 semi-final saw Allansford record a 4.4.28 to 2.10.22 win over Russells Creek in the qualifying final, with Dennington handing Timboon a 12.6.78 to 1.3.9 belting in the elimination final.

In this week’s under 18.5 second semi-final, South Rovers will play Allansford, with Russells Creek and Dennington set to meet in the first semi-final.

Dennington had a six point win in the under 16 qualifying final, defeating Old Collegians 4.2.26 to 3.2.20, with South Rovers having a 7.2.46 to 4.2.26 win over Russells Creek in the elimination final.

In the under 16 games this week, the second semi-final will see Allansford play Dennington, with the first semi-final a match-up between Old Collegians and South Rovers.

The qualifying final of the under 13.5 football saw Old Collegians have a 4.5.29 to 2.5.17 win over Allansford, while in the elimination final, South Rovers scored a 3.1.19 to 2.3.15 victory over Merrivale.

This week’s games see Dennington and Old Collegians meeting in the second semi-final, with Allansford and South Rovers to clash in the first semi-final.

In the A grade netball, Merrivale scored a 40-38 win over Allansford in the qualifying final.

Tahni Porter, Paiyton Noonan and Kelsey Perry were best in the win for the Tigers, Noonan shooting 35 goals.

For Allansford, Abby Sheehan, Bec Mitchell and Lisa Pender were best, with Jess Rohan scoring 26 goals.

The elimination final saw Old Collegians end Kolora-Noorat’s season with a 58-54 victory.

Chelsea Quinn scored 32 goals for Old Collegians and Maggie Kline 36, with Tara Elliott shooting 36 and Emily Forrest 18 for the Power.

This week’s A grade games will see Nirranda and Merrivale meet in the second semi-final, and Allansford will play Old Collegians in the first semi-final.

The A reserve qualifying final saw Allansford score a 23-20 win over Nirranda, while the elimination final saw a 60-57 win to Russells Creek over Timboon.

In B grade, the qualifying final saw Merrivale have a 35-28 win over Nirranda, with South Rovers having a 43-32 win over Russells Creek in the elimination final.

Old Collegians had a 23-21 win over Russells Creek in the 17 and under qualifying final, while Timboon had a 39-20 win in the elimination final.

The 15 and under qualifying final went the way of Russells Creek who had a 29-27 win over Allansford, while in the elimination final Dennington had a 27-13 win over Kolora-Noorat.

The unbeaten Timboon Demons will play Russells Creek in this week’s second semi-final, while the first semi will be between Allansford and Dennington.

Timboon had a 32-19 win over Dennington in the 13 and under qualifying final, with Russells Creek registering a 27-24 win over Panmure in the elimination final.

Merrivale and Timboon will meet in Saturday’s second semi-final, with Dennington and Russells Creek to contest Sunday’s first semi-final.

In the 11 and under competition, Dennington had a 21-3 qualifying final win over Merrivale, with Russells Creek defeating Old Collegians 21-6 in the elimination final.

Timboon, also undefeated in this age group, will play Dennington in the second semi-final, with the first semi-final between Merrivale and Russells Creek.
