Westcoaster to roll in Saturday

THE thrill, smells and nostalgia of steam engine power will be on show this weekend when the steam locomotive R711 and diesel S313 roll in to Warrnambool this Saturday.

By Staff Writer

The locomotive will thunder towards Warrnambool from Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station.

It will head out of the city in the morning, picking up passengers at Werribee before an express run to Geelong.

After a short stop at Waurn Ponds to pick up the last passengers, the engines will make easy work of the line as they pick up speed and head towards the volcanic plains of Camperdown and then on to Warrnambool.

For those not making the train journey, its arrival in Warrnambool (expected to be shortly before 1pm) will no doubt be a great spectacle.

The train will spend around three hours at the station before departing for its return journey at 4.30pm.
