Women in the spotlight

MOYNE Shire Council will today celebrate the incredible women who make our community special.

With an overwhelming response, council received over 50 nominations for the 2024 Inspiring Women of Moyne awards.

The awards aim to recognise and celebrate women in Moyne who contribute meaningfully to our community - whether through their work, studies, families, relationships, or community involvement.

The awards will be presented at a free breakfast event at Glyph Gallery in Port Fairy this morning, Friday March 8 – International Women’s Day.

The event was hosted by deputy mayor Cr Karen Foster and featured guest speaker Kirsten Diprose.

Mayor Cr Ian Smith and Cr Karen Foster have selected the winners from an extensive list of nominees.

Cr Foster said it was important for women in the Moyne community to be acknowledged for their valuable contributions.

“Each of the women nominated are examples of the strong, capable and generous women amongst us,” Cr Foster said.

“These women have been nominated because they make a difference in the world around them, inspiring others.

“These awards are a passion of mine and provide a wonderful opportunity to celebrate women making positive impacts in the community while continuing the push for greater gender equality.”

The award recipients will be featured in next week’s edition of the Warrnambool Weekly.
