Work begins on new pump track
WORK has begun on the construction of Warrnambool’s very first pump track.

The track, located near the former YMCA site on Queens Road, is a circuit with hills, berms and jumps.
Pump tracks are designed to be used by bikes, skateboards and scooters, with riders generating momentum using body movements rather than pedalling or pushing.
The project was identified in the South of Merri Open Space Precinct Plan and has been funded through a $150,000 grant from the Victorian Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
Warrnambool City mayor Cr Ben Blain said he was excited to see work continuing on bringing the plan to life.
“Pump tracks are becoming more and more popular across Australia and it’s really positive to be able to bring one to Warrnambool,” he said.
“It’s something that older kids will have a lot of fun with, but really, looking at other locations they’re popular with younger kids and even adults too.”
The new track will be located near the former site of the BMX track.
“The track will be in a section of the northern car park area so there will still be plenty of parking, and also room to expand the track in the future as funding allows,” Cr Blain said.
“Looking ahead, the South of Merri Plan identifies a park and a fenced, off-lead dog park so this is really the first step in creating a new hub for recreation in this part of Warrnambool and making the most of the former YMCA site.”
The new pump track is expected to open in time for the busy summer holiday period.
