To celebrate ‘World Knit in Public Day’ on Saturday, the West Warrnambool Neighbourhood House unveiled a vibrant yarn bombing display at the park.

Leading up to the event, house crafters and volunteers collaborated to decorate the park’s gum trees with colourful knitted and crocheted designs.

The community-led installations featured distinct themes, including a Neighbourhood House tree, children’s pom-pom tree, a rainbow pride tree, an Indigenous-themed tree, and a nature tree adorned with colourful bugs, lizards, flowers, and butterflies.

Following the outdoor launch, 40 yarn enthusiasts gathered inside the house for afternoon tea and live entertainment.

Attendees enjoyed fresh barista coffee while being entertained by the West Side Singers, a group of young performers from Warrnambool West Primary School led by music teacher Merran Moir, followed by local musician Gabby Steel.

West Warrnambool Neighbourhood House runs regular knitting and crochet classes and welcomes newcomers of all skill levels.

The creative park installations will remain on display until the end of July, and all community members are encouraged to visit.
